Tool

Tree work pricing estimator for Winston-Salem

Pick the job, set the size, say how hard the tree is to reach, and the tool returns a working range. The ranges come from local market pricing. They are not a quote: the price that binds anybody is the written one, produced after a crew has stood in the yard.

A two-storey house is roughly 25 feet to the eaves, so a tree half again as tall as the roof is around 40 feet.

Access moves the price further than anything else once height is known. A tree that has to be climbed and rigged down piece by piece takes several times as long as one that can be felled.

Reading the number

These ranges cover the work itself: crew, equipment, rigging, and the cleanup that goes with them. They do not cover a crane brought in for a tree too large or too decayed to climb, which is billed by the hour on top and sits in its own category. They also do not cover repairing a lawn a machine has rutted, or replacing anything the tree was standing on.

Height sets the bracket and access decides where inside it a job lands. That is not a hedge, it is the actual arithmetic of the trade: a crew that can back a truck under a tree and drop it works in a fraction of the time a climber takes to dismantle the same tree from the top over a roof.

Condition is the variable people leave out. Sound wood can be climbed and dead wood cannot, so a tree that has been standing dead for two seasons is a more expensive removal than the same tree would have been alive. Waiting on a declining tree does not save money.

The full cost guide breaks each of these down, and the main guide covers what happens before anything is priced.

Planning brackets for tree work on Piedmont properties. Height sets the bracket, and access decides where inside it a job lands: the same eighty-foot oak costs very differently standing alone in a back field and standing over a roof with a fence between it and the road. The scale is compressed so small and large jobs fit on one chart. Only a written quote after somebody has walked the property is a price.
